A complimentary information pack is provided in each room which includes resources to help you know more about the local area and plan your holiday. This includes;

We also have a library of guide books and maps and our staff can help you with additional research. For those who would like to research by themselves, they can use the internet browsing facility at the library. We are happy to help you with advice on the local area and sight-seeing or any other assistance you may need with the information and bookings.

You can choose from a range of daytrip programs or activities and we can help organize them as you require.

Activities

For activities, fragrant nature arranges cultural shows and visits in the local area to see Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam, Kalaripayattu and Classical Music. We can also arrange visits to see local small scale industries such as coconut processing and coir production, cashew processing and local hand-weaving. You can learn how to cook keralean food from our local house wife, (guide/interpreter provided) or go fishing on the lake with a local fisherman. Bicycles are available for hire if you want to explore the local area at close quarters. If you want to see elephants, we are near Parippally and Bhoothakulam where there are many temple elephants and during the festival season there are opportunities to see full dress processions. It is also easy to arrange elephant rides and feeding elephants locally throughout the year.

Calendar of local events

Here is a selection of local events with approximate time of year:

• January/ February : Thaipooyam, birthday of Lord Muruga, celebrated in various places including      Nedungolam with ritual piercings and processions.

• February : Local Boat Race held on Paravur Lake.

• March : Atham Festival, Mahavishnu Temple, Nedungolam. a temporary bridge is made from boat to      allow access across the river to the temple.

• March : Parippally Gajamela (elephant procession).

• April : Meena Bharani festival, celebrated locally at Paravur Puttingal Devi Temple with a fireworks display      on the last day.

• April : Vishu - the Malayalam New Year.

• August : Nehru Trophy Boat Race, Alappuzha.

• August/September : Onam - a ten day festival unique to kerala.
