Educational trips
The varied geography and distinctive culture of Kerala
naturally provide a life-enriching experience for most visitors to the
State. Fragrant Nature tries to make this experience as rich as possible
for its guests by providing information on the local area and giving assistance
in putting together trips and activities with local guides. Involvement
in education in its broadest sense is an integral part of our commitment
to Responsible Tourism. Catering for school parties and educational trips
is therefore a natural extension of our normal activity.

Examples of Educational Topics:
- Ecological Studies - Fragrant
Nature has areas set aside for conservation and "wildlife gardening".
These areas include numerous natural ponds which may be suitable for
studying pond ecosystems. In addition, the lake next to the resort provides
essentially an estuarine environment for study, as it is has a fluctuating
salinity being fed by saltwater from the sea and freshwater from the
neighbouring Ithikkara River.
- Agriculture - examples
of commercially important plants are to be found on the Resort such
as coconut, bamboo, arecanut, cashew, teak, mahogany, mango, banana,
black pepper. Crops grown locally include coconut, rice, tapioca, papaya,
mango, banana, vanilla, and rubber.
- Local Industry - Fragrant
Nature can arrange visits to study local small-scale industries such
as coconut and coir processing, cashew processing, handweaving, brickmaking.

- Traditional Culture - dance,
drama and artforms
- Fragrant Nature can arrange performances, demonstrations and classes
in Mohiniyattam,
Bharatha
Natiyam, Kathakali,
Theyyam,
and Kalaripayattu.
- Local Cuisine - Fragrant
Nature can arrange cookery demonstrations of South Indian cuisine either
by its own cooks in the Resort kitchen or by a local housewife working
in her own kitchen.
