THE ESSENTIAL KERALA
Fragrant Nature is a small and exclusive Responsible Tourism Resort, with five spacious deluxe lakeview villas and five luxury lakeside rooms, nestled amongst coconut palms on over three acres of waterside land on Mala Lake near Paravur, Kollam District. Facilities include a restaurant serving authentic local food, a swimming pool, an Ayurveda Centre and a performance area used for cultural shows and yoga. The peaceful lakeside setting provides a remote haven from the bustle of everyday life and excellent immediate access for boat trips and exploration of the varied local flora and fauna. Fragrant Nature Resort is, however, only 6km from the main highway and well located as a base for days out to discover the essential elements of Kerala - beaches, backwaters, wildlife and culture.

The scenic and unspoilt beach at Kappil is only a rickshaw's journey away. The popular beach resort of Varkala is also within easy reach offering the opportunity for bathing, shopping and eating out.

The boarding jetty for cruises on the Kollam (Quilon) to Alappuzah (Alleppey) backwater route is half an hour away by road.

AT ONE WITH NATURE
Fragrant Nature Resort is designed to be in harmony with its natural surroundings and is developed as a sustainable Responsible Tourism venture. The Resort is nature-based, respecting the ecology of its site.

A particular feature of the Resort is the waterside areas given over to "wildlife gardening" - to not only conserve but increase the diversity of native wild flower, insect and small animal species found on and around the Resort land.

There are numerous ponds behind the waterfront and these are actively managed to avoid choking by weeds such as the non-native African Moss and to maintain wetland areas for fish, reptiles and birds.

The Resort development is intentionally small-scale to have low adverse impact on the environment and local community. Energy-efficient architectural design and low-energy appliances have been employed to reduce energy consumption and the detrimental effects of energy production.

Although we try to reduce the need for artificial cooling by the use of insulating materials in the fabric of our buildings, air-conditioning is available as an optional extra for guests staying in our lakeside rooms where the humidity can be high. As air-conditioning consumes a relatively large amount of energy we have chosen to “offset” our carbon dioxide emissions from this activity with Climate Care.

Eco-friendly purchasing and a recycling scheme are also in place with the aim of avoiding pollution and achieving "zero waste". All proceeds of the recycling scheme go into a staff fund to provide incentives for compliance.
