The Kochi Muziris Biennale is a very popular international exhibition of contemporary art which is held on the island of Fort Kochi for a duration of four months. It is the largest and best ever art exhibition in India and the biggest contemporary art exhibition in Asia. Kochi-Muziris Biennale is a great initiative by the Kochi Biennale Foundation which is strongly backed by the Kerala government.

This wonderful exhibition is held at galleries, halls and site-specific installations in public spaces, heritage buildings and disused structures. It is a great platform for you to get immersed in artworks from renowned national and international artists which are portrayed through various mediums like paintings, sculpture, installations and much more. Various sites for the Kochi Muziris Biennale are Aspinwall House, David Hall, Pepper House, Moidu’s Heritage, Durbar Hall, Cabral Yard, Parade Ground, Fort Kochi beach, Kashi Art Gallery, Jew Town Road Godown, Rose Street Bungalow, Cochin Club and Gallery OED.

This year, the Kochi Muziris Biennale is all set to be held from December 12, 2022 to April 10, 2023. The mission of the Kochi Muziris Biennale is to invoke the historic cosmopolitan legacy of the modern metropolis of Kochi, and its mythical predecessor, the ancient port of Muziris. Along with the exhibition, you will also get to experience discussion programmes, seminars, workshops and educational programmes for the students.

The Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) which is organizing the Kochi Muziris Biennale was founded in 2010 by noted artists Bose Krishnamachari and Riyas Komu. It is a non-profit charitable trust which is engaged in promoting art, culture and educational activities in India. KBF which attempts to strengthen contemporary art infrastructure is engaged in the conservation of heritage properties and monuments and the upliftment of various traditional forms of art and culture.

 The tickets for the Kochi Muziris Biennale are issued both at the Aspinwall House venue as well as online. One ticket will be provided which will give you access to all the other venues too. Shubigi Rao is the curator of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. The word ‘Biennale’ is pronounced as bee-enn-AH-lay.
