People often plan around Neelakurinji in Munnar, the flower that turns these hills blue once every twelve years. Problem is, it last bloomed in 2018. Next one's 2030. If you're reading this anytime before then, you will not see it in bloom. The Kurinji Trail inside the park is still worth walking. Just don't build your trip around a flower that isn't flowering.

  • Stay quiet on the trail. Tahr are used to people at a distance, but sudden noise scatters them back toward the shola forest edges.
  • Overcast mornings tend to keep them out grazing longer; harsh midday sun pushes them into shade.
Beyond the Tahr, keep an eye out for the park's other residents. Eravikulam holds over 130 bird species, with Anamudi, the highest peak in South India, forming the backdrop for most of the walk.
